Software Engineer

Software Engineer (BBBH14327) Portsmouth, England

Salary: GBP50 - GBP55 per hour

My client is looking for a Software Engineer to join on them on a 6 month contract. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing production test software to allow design proving and to allow validation of hardware manufactured to our own designs. Legacy systems exist to act as a starting point but changes in approach, in hardware used, operating systems and application software are all required.

Pay: £55.00 per hour via Umbrella (Inside IR35)
Location: Portsmouth
Contract: 6 months
Hours: 37 hours per week Monday – Friday (Hybrid is an option at business discretion 3 days onsite and 2 days WFH)
Security Clearance: BPSS

Job Profile
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Produce a design for a redeveloped test system.
  • Develop software aspects for the test system.
  • Definition, design, implementation, documentation and integration activities associated with this.
  • Occasionally diagnose software problems in the laboratory prototyping environment.


Skills/Experience Required
Required Skills

  • Proven modern C++ software engineering on Linux platforms to a high standard
  • Analytical mind with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills as a pre-requisite of a collaborative team-working environment
  • Knowledge and application of GNU/Linux toolsets


Desired Skills

  • Experience of automated test frameworks (e.g. Robot Framework, Google Test, Catch2)
  • Experience of Atlassian Jira, Confluence, BitBucket
  • Previous experience of developing software to control and monitor COTS test equipment (e.g. Rohde and Schwarz)
