Salary: GBP60000 - GBP65000 per annum

Our exclusive Client a leading Transportation specialist operating in the UK Rail Sector have an immediate requirement for a Design Verifier (signalling).

Working on a permanent basis the role will be supporting some of the most significant projects within the UK, including Re-signalling, Enhancement projects and the digital railway initiatives. This immediate requirement is for an IRSE 1.1.160 IRSE Signalling Design Verifier to join an established design team in one of our clients key locations in Birmingham, Derby or York working on key Railway Signalling projects.

The Successful applicant will produce, deliver and verify safety related rail signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in accordance with the client specific requirements, appropriate railway standards, technical constraints and client company procedures liaising with the Designer Delivery Manager or  Responsible Engineer. 

You will also be required to Produce and verify delivery strategies, Hazard identification, risk analysis, subcontract specifications, tendering and estimates, system definition, requirements capture, compliance management, safety assurance activities, project programme, commissioning support, design investigations, hand-back and project closeout.

Support the Designer Delivery Manager or Responsible Engineer with design verification assurance activities including undertaking audits, validation of design deliverables and work package management.

Applicants must have the following experience and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Application of Signalling Verification and Design Process at a principle and system level
  • Application of CDM (Construction, Design and Management Regulations)
  • Application of the RSSB (Rail Safety and Standards Board)
  • Application of Network Rail Standards (or equivalent)
  • Verification of risk assessments
  • Knowledge of CSM (Common Safety Method)
  • Understanding of railway construction methods and materials on complex projects
  • Awareness of ORR (Office of Rail & Road)
  • Possesses effective communication skills
  • Computer skills including CAD
  • Able to produce and verify electrical and electronic circuits, data sheets and specifications
  • Time management and time keeping
  • Management of task priorities
  • Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Awareness of project commercial and financial processes
  • Awareness of requirements capture

Qualifications

  • IRSE 1.1.160 IRSE Signalling Design Verifier
  • HNC/HND in an engineering discipline

Experience

  • Production of Signalling Design deliverables at a principle and system level on time and to budget
  • Verification of design deliverables to time and budget
  • Engineering interfaces with other disciplines, i.e. Installation, Test, Control Systems, Telecommunications, Civil Engineering, Electrification and Power, Permanent Way
  • Operational risk assessments
  • Management of configuration and change control
  • Applying Network Rail Signalling and Railway Group Standards
  • Verification of Specifications, Signalling Scheme Plans, Location Area Plans, System Architecture

Desirable but not essential:

  • Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) Certificate
  • Membership of the IRSE (Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers)

Qualifications

  • BSc or BEng degree level education in an engineering discipline
  • 1.1.145 Signalling Design Manager licence


Experience

  • Work package management including project programmes
  • Leading small teams and design packages
  • Verification of generic design solutions
  • Tendering signalling design projects
