Mechanical Engineer - Powertrain
Job Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for the design and integration of various mechanical powertrain components and subsystems for military combat vehicles. Need powertrain, chassis, cooling systems and/or suspension experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop sub-system/component level requirements and design concepts.
o Ability to read/ understand blueprints
o Create conceptual designs
o Knowledge of common prototype and production manufacturing processes (machining, welding, forming, etc.)
o Knowledge of standard components (fasteners, springs, pins, etc.)
- Perform engineering analysis to evaluate sub-system/component designs.
o Create sketches
o Perform tolerance stack-ups
o Perform engineering calculations
o Create Pro-E Creo models to be used for analysis
o Understand/ perform FEA using Pro-Mechanica
- Work with design services to create detailed drawings.
o Knowledge of common drafting standards
o Understand/ apply GD&T, and Model Visualization tools: TeamCenter, VisMockup
o Basic knowledge of materials
- Component/ Vehicle test support
o Understand/ create test requirements
o Review test plan
o Monitor test results
- Project Management
o Understand/ create project schedules
o Maintain project open issues lists
o Prepare/ present project status
- Support concurrent engineering, procurement and prototype build/integration activities by providing technical assistance.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- BSc Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Structural, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive)
- MSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Management)
Experience:
- Experience in delivering large complex US Defense programs
- Applied working knowledge in the domain of structures and survivability, with a proven track record of product development throughout the entire product lifecycle
- Knowledge of Systems based design and related Standards/Processes
- Experience with bid capture, contract negotiations and delivery planning.
- Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the US DoD ground vehicle requirements
- Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition
- Familiarity with the US Army TACOM / TARDEC organizations
- Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently.
- Currently holds or has the ability to obtain SECRET US Defense clearance
- Detailed knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering and vehicle principles.
- Detailed knowledge of Military Standards and regulations.
- Experience with CAx (i.e. UG Nx, Solid Works, CATIA, Pro E Creo) software and 3D printing, as well as general Material (e.g. Steel, Aluminum, Ceramic) properties.
- Experience of working in a multi-national, multi-organizational and corporate environment.
- Experience with engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry.
