Principal Data Engineer: GCP, Big Query, Cloud Storage, Python, SQL

We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer with GCP experience for an established Financial Services organization. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding data & analytics team where you will play a leading role in the design & implementation of the data technology function. As part of this technology-driven company, you will work closely with the architectural team to develop the data roadmap while remaining a hands-on technical engineer and POC for junior engineers.

Coming from a strong data background, the successful candidate will have a deep understanding of GCP environments, including technologies such Big Query, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub etc along with coding experience in SQL and Python. With a direct report to the Chief Engineer and senior IT individuals in the company, this in an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in the development of the data engineering framework.

This is a remote role, with ad-hoc visits to the office

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the design & implementation of technical delivery for data team
• Collaborate with Enterprise/Solution Architects to ensure data solutions are delivered
• Ability to identify gaps or challenges in engineering processes
• Ensure data implementation follows architectural governance processes
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers

Requirements:

• Experience in GCP environment using technologies such as Big Query, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Cloud function
• Deep understanding of datawarehouses, databases and data platforms
• Excellent coding knowledge – Python and SQL
• Solid knowledge of DevOps and deployment tools
• Previous experience with line management and coaching is highly desirable
