We are Currently recruiting 52 Hospital Porters with immediate start to work at Nightingale Hospital Manchester

Hours of work:

Alternating: 06:00 - 14:00 & 14:00 - 22:00 5 Days out of 7

Job Description: Working under the supervision of the Team Leader, Porters will assist the Shift Facilities Manager in providing an efficient portering/courier service in accordance with the following list of duties.
Key duties and responsibilities include

1. Carry out general Portering duties of a routine nature on a daily basis which include:
* Moving patients between departments
* Moving/changing medical gas cylinders
* Collection and delivery of specimens
* Delivery of Electro Biomedical Equipment to wards.
* Movement of beds, bedding, furniture and other equipment.
* Deliver crash trolley to resuscitation incidents
* Delivery of sterile supplies, food orders and linen out of normal hours
* Collection of sensitive waste items and deliver to the incinerator
2. Transport of patients within the hospital site. This will on occasion involve assisting with lifting patients. Always carry out heavy physical tasks in accordance with manual handling training.
Note: Patients may request routine information about the hospital or reassurance about their treatment. Any information volunteered by patients should be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
3. To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.

4. To respond to fire alarms as part of the fire response team, and meet and direct the fire brigade to the source of the alarm.

5. To respond to crash (resuscitation) calls. To collect and deliver crash trolleys and equipment to the resuscitation team, and assist them in moving the patient.

6. Assist the medical staff with the admission and discharge of patients.

7. Collection from wards and moving of deceased patients to the mortuary observing privacy and dignity requirements.

8. Transport of full or empty medical gas cylinders as required. Connecting and disconnecting of cylinders in manifold room in accordance with portable gas cylinder training.

9. Transport of goods as required of an ad hoc nature on request over and above routine duties.

10. To ensure that visitors of all kinds to the Portering Services Department are courteously received and assisted in accordance with current customer services practice.

11. To participate in implementing contingency plans for internal/external emergencies, including Missing Patient, Major Incident, fire/explosion/escape of gas/petrochemicals/biological or bacteriological hazards/bomb threats/major accidents/flood/lightning strikes or windstorm.

12. To be vigilant and ensure that NHS property is not removed from the premises without lawful authority and ensure that written authority is produced to clarify removal, and to work with the security team in dealing with patient/visitor related incidents.

13. To assist the courier staff with the sorting of all mail as and when necessary.

14. To arrange and make withdrawals of linen and other stores at times when regular staff are not in attendance.

15. To organise and deliver food in accordance with the better hospital food initiative at times when regular catering staff are not in attendance.

16. Organise transport and collect blood from Blood Transfusion Service
