Salary:  GBP1500 - GBP2000 per month


Teaching Assistant

Hours of work:  32.5 hours a week

Classroom hours: 8.30-3.45

 

Veritas are working with a brilliant school based in Lambeth looking to hire a teaching assistant to support the class teacher to enhance every pupils learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. As a teaching assistant your responsibilites will include promoting every pupils self-belief, social inclusion and self-esteem to ensure that pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. Every teaching assistant will need to provide for the social and welfare needs of the pupils within the school. One of the key responsibilities of the role is to safeguard pupils and to promote fundamental values for the next stages of life.

A teaching assistant also undertakes other professional duties to support the pupils and make sure they make good academic progress and under the direction of the teacher implement group or 1:1 interventions to support all pupils. As the teaching assistant you will also be expected to provide feedback to the pupils under guidance of  the teacher. Finally, you will be required to attend to the pupils personal needs, including social health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.

The School:

The school is a coeducational primary school based over two sites. The school is a 4 form entry school who have adapted their curriculum to reflect the local community - enhancing focus on local issues. They work with local partners/ organisations to ensure their children feel connected and valued in their own community. Furthermore, the school are providing opportunities for our children to meet and engage with positive role models in their community such as MP's. They have a established a 'Pupil Parliament', giving their children a voice to help development and events in the school. From the head of school down they are very committed to giving their children the best education possible and these values are expected to be carried by every member of staff including the teaching assistant.

Any new starter will find the school easy to travel to as it has excellent public transport links and parking will be offered to the successful applicant.

Desirable:

  • An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
  • Up to date First Aid training
  • Up to date Safeguarding training
  • Experience working with children

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Understanding how pupils learn and develop
  • Effective use of technology to support learning
  • General understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Ability to motivate pupils
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities as a teaching assistant
