Operations Manager - Waste Management (15/11/2023OP) Walsall, England

Salary: GBP45000 - GBP45000 per annum
We have a very exciting role within the Waste Management industry for an operations manager based in Walsall. A reputable Waste Management company who has acquired a lot of companies even during the tough times of the pandemic! They are financially stable and have massive growth plans that you can be a part of! They have been around for years and have a fabulous working environment. £45k + Car Allowance or Company Car.

This will be the Management of a busy transfer station, across 3 shifts with a growth expectation. You will be managing around 45 people, so management experience is essential. You will be working Monday-Friday & no working from home as you will be on site!

Main Duties:

- Oversee profit and loss responsibility for Brownhills and Dudley facilities.
- Establish and maintain an effective management structure for safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Develop and manage training matrices for operational staff, ensuring alignment with the group management system.
- Proactively monitor and report key performance indicators related to safety, compliance, and profitability.
- Establish and manage effective site communication to support operational and commercial activities.
- Maintain relevant KPIs to assess site performance in health and safety, compliance, and profit.
- Ensure proper maintenance of the site and equipment, including statutory checks and reviews.
- Mentor and develop key leaders through personal development plans.
- Verify supervisors' completion of pre-use checks for fixed and mobile plant equipment.
- Conduct and oversee various site inspections, including fire marshal checks and emergency lighting checks.
- Induct and oversee contractors, ensuring compliance with the permit-to-work system.
- Regularly update and fulfil training requirements, including P.A.S.S and first aid.

Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with Commercial and Technical Teams, providing operational feedback on inputs and waste streams.
- Assist in scheduling waste consignments for optimal site capacity utilization.
- Coordinate with the Logistics Team to minimize tipping times and maximize vehicle efficiency.
- Direct Shift Supervisors for effective handovers and tipping sheet completion.
- Manage staffing on all shifts, including handling holiday requests.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and storage bay safety in line with regulations.
- Collaborate with the QHSE Team to review and update Risk Assessments and Procedures.
- Optimize storage bay capacity through regular briefings with Shift Supervisors.
- Support Customer Service Team in timely invoicing and addressing non-conformances.
- Enforce high housekeeping standards and direct resources for necessary activities during shifts.
- Perform HR duties, including check-ins, back-to-work meetings, and disciplinary investigations.
- Foster a positive Health and Safety environment, reporting near misses and addressing concerns promptly.
- Assist Senior Management by compiling relevant KPIs for sites.
