Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, £13.75 – £18.12 per hour dependant on experience.

Job Purpose:
EDF has an exciting opening for a Chemistry Technician at Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station.
At EDF Energy, we’re on a journey to change the way people use energy for generations to come. Producing low carbon energy is one of the things we do best. And right now, our eight existing nuclear sites generate 9,000 megawatts per year through 15 reactors, avoiding emissions of over 40m tonnes of carbon dioxide. That’s the equivalent of taking about 60% of cars off our roads.
Reporting to the Hartlepool Power Station Technical and Safety department. The core duties involve chemical sampling, analysis and reporting. This is an opportunity to work in a high performing and experienced team. The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Accountabilities:

As a Chemistry Technician you will be responsible for:

• Carrying out routine sampling and analysis in line with company, environmental and safety legislation.
• Ensuring that sampling, analysis and sample results are carried out efficiently
• Conducting routine wet chemistry and bench top techniques.
• Reporting of Power Station chemical parameters, instigating actions and reporting to the Assistant Chemists.
• Preparing operational samples, chemical doses and standard solutions
• Carrying out chemical dosing and assisting bulk chemical tank fills.
• Managing laboratory consumables and adhering to high chemical safety standards.
• Working with a radiologically controlled area and applying the Radiological safety rules.

Knowledge and Skills:

As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National qualification standards (or equivalent) Candidates with these qualifications that include “4” and above grade passes in English and Mathematics will have an advantage. Relevant A levels (Maths, Science or equivalent) or relevant industry experience may have an advantage. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Candidates should also have a flexible approach and the ability to work well as part of a team. Ideally, the successful applicant would have previous laboratory experience.
