Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Pūkenga - Lecturer in Regional and Urban Planning. The role will be responsible for delivering courses in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning programme or other allied programmes in the School.

We are a multidisciplinary Te Kura Waihanga - School of Architecture, with programmes from Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture, Construction Law, and Building Science. Our staff are renowned for excellent research, teaching and industry engagement and our graduates are highly attractive candidates to both local and international employers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attract internal and external research funding through the development of research projects that contribute to teaching and to Aotearoa New Zealand urban and regional planning in general.
  • Supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Conduct academically rigorous and inspiring teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a particular capacity and experience in urban and regional planning practice.
  • Contribute to the collegial and administrative development of the programme, School, Faculty and University in service roles.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The preferred candidate will:

  • Have a strong focus on planning as it relates to urban and regional territories.
  • Bring a reputation and profile as a researcher and/or professional with a capability to contribute both specific and general expertise to the programme.
  • Be qualified as a planner and ideally have a PhD.
  • Have expertise teaching in courses on planning practice and into planning studios, as well as environmental management and protection.
  • Familiarity with the Resource Management Act and a willingness to upskill in whatever legislation replaces it is important.

The preferred candidate will also have an established track record in research publication, professional experience and/or creative work and be a member of, or be eligible for membership of, the New Zealand Planning Institute.
