Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Night Manager on a permanent, full-time contract to provide support to students who live in a hall of residence. You will assist and guide our Residential Advisers, ensuring they work to scope and are confident in their role, and a unique skill will be your ability to engage with a diverse range of residents, many away from home for the first time.

The role has a focus on the health, welfare and safety of residents, security of the buildings and provision of support, assistance, and guidance to rostered Residential Advisers. You may have experience in the health or accommodation sectors.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will be called on to provide advice and guidance to our Residential Advisers to ensure they work confidently and within their role scope. In addition, you will bring clarity of thought and maturity to decision-making, particularly in heat-of-the moment situations, positively influencing, persuading, and supporting residents to live and study in the Halls in a way that fosters a unique Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington community feel. 

We expect applicants to:

  • Enjoy working with young people from a range of cultures and backgrounds who are transitioning to independence in a communal living environment.
  • Be an approachable and trusted person who is able to manage a range of wellbeing and behavioural situations with skill and care.
  • Have proficient computer skills including using database and reporting systems.
  • Have 3 years’ experience in a relevant role.
  • A clean driver’s license.
