Randstad CPE are currently recruiting for a Principal Design Manager reporting directly into the Design Area Lead to work on a prestigious heavy civils project in West London! The Design Manager must have a strong background within Temporary Works and have at least 8-10 years of experience within design.
The candidate will lead a team of Temporary Works Designers on the project to deliver designs to the construction teams and review supply chain submissions, assisting the Temporary Works Design Lead & Sector Temporary Works Co-ordinators in the delivery of temporary works activities on the Contract.

Roles/Responsibilities:
- Ensure that a design brief has been established with full consultation is adequate and is in accordance with the actual situation on site, and ensuring all construction loads are considered;
- Advise the permanent works designer of any temporary conditions or loads that should be considered in the permanent works design;
- Ensure that the design is independently checked for concept, structural adequacy and compliance with the brief
- Working in accordance with procedures for TW management.
- Temporary works design from brief to issue of final drawings
- Ensuring SHE hazards and risks have been avoided or reduced in the design and/or check of temporary works and that the Delivery Team are aware of the residual risks to be managed.
- Ensuring the delivery teams are provided with safe, workable temporary works in a timely manner to suit programmes via in-house design or supplier/subcontract design checks.
- Delivery of technical support to the projects.
Candidate Requirements:
- Civil or Structural Engineering Qualification , preferably BEng or higher (MEng, MSc) (essential)
- Previous experience in Temporary Works design or Civil/Structural design (circa 10 years experience or more)
- Understanding and application of BS5975:2019 (essential)
- Thorough understanding and application of the CDM Regulations 2015 (essential)
- CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course (preferred)
- Completed SMSTS (preferred)
