Position Overview:
The Podiatrist is responsible for providing clinical and preventative podiatry services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities across Cape York. This role requires an in-depth understanding of cultural issues, sensitivity to community protocols, and the ability to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to clients with complex health needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Service Planning and Implementation:
- Contribute to the development of culturally appropriate podiatry programs and policies.
- Ensure that services are aligned with the Apunipima Way and Model of Care.
- Participate in ongoing professional development relevant to the role.

Operational Delivery:
- Assess, plan, and deliver podiatry services in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Manage high-risk clients with chronic conditions, including foot ulcerations, peripheral neuropathies, and vascular diseases.
- Provide comprehensive treatment, including orthotics, footwear, wound management, and health education, in clinics, outreach locations, home visits, and via telehealth services.
- Ensure client and family understanding by providing clear support and advice.

Team Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Mentor and educate Health Workers and other staff, promoting preventative foot health practices.
- Act as a role model in delivering holistic, client-centered care.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Involvement:
- Foster and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including community groups, health providers, and partners.
- Participate in meetings, networks, and community engagement activities to inform practice and gather insights.
- Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure accessible podiatry care.

Financial and Resource Management:
- Adhere to legislative requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities to enhance service delivery.
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, maintaining accurate records and reporting on program outcomes.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Podiatry and current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (AHPRA).
- Experience delivering comprehensive, evidence-based podiatry care to clients with complex needs.
- Proven experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating podiatry programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to critically analyze and problem-solve in clinical settings.
- Knowledge and understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly in Cape York.
- Capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in accordance with community protocols.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Cape York by light aircraft or 4WD as needed.

Desirable:
- Experience working within remote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities preferred.
- Experience within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Sector ideal but not a requirement.
