Wing Repair Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Engineer (BBBH16011) Filton, England

Salary: GBP42 - GBP42 per hour

Our client has an opportunity for a Wing Repair F&DT Engineer to join them on a contract basis. You will be working together to provide complex repairs in support of planned major repair activities and wing major test programmes.
Working as part of an expert multiskilled team you will be responsible for Fatigue and Damage Tolerance (F+DT) analysis and justification of metallic and composite structures. Your primary role will be to work closely with design and static stress engineers to assess and validate repairs to damaged aircraft structures.

Role: Wing Repair F&DT Engineer
Location: Filton – 60% onsite as a minimum
Contract Length: June 2025 – likely to be extended
Clearance: BPSS required to start
Hourly Rate: £42.00ph via Umbrella, inside IR35

What you’ll be doing:

  • Performing structural F+DT analysis and compiling justification reports for repair designs using approved methods and tools, working closely with skilled designers to develop optimum repairs
  • Creating, compiling and coordinating engineering documentation to deliver the required technical data for repairs
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the internal teams, including the offshore teams, and the suppliers as required

Requirements:

  • Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent) and relevant engineering experience
  • F+DT engineering background, Aircraft preferred
  • Experience of analysis of aircraft structures using a range of hand and computer methods
  • An understanding of the fundamental methods of F+DT analysis and an ability to develop these methods
  • Knowledge and experience on both metallic and composite structures
  • Understanding of the airworthiness regulations
  • An understanding and ability to decide, with a good rationale, on how the repair design affect the static strength of the aircraft structures
  • An ability to choose and apply appropriate analysis methods to the repair design
  • Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design, Customer Services and suppliers
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent computer skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables
  • Capability to work under pressure and ensure the delivery is technically correct, on time and on quality within the tight time constraints
  • Be pragmatic, able to solve the problem and ability to make decisions based on a good engineering rationale


Desirable:

  • Be conversant with technical requirements for repair design
  • Working knowledge of the Wing Structures
  • Knowledge of the application of Finite Element analysis
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Understand the relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities
  • Good knowledge and experience on both metallic and composite Wing structure
