Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting Community Advisers to provide support to students living in Te Kopanga - University Accommodation. These roles are permanent, part-time, up to 15 or 30 hours per week, and you do not need to be a current student to apply.

A focus on connecting residents to university services ensuring their academic success, wellbeing, welfare, and health & safety is front of mind. To be successful in the role, we are looking for responsible fun, flexible advisers who can balance student support with meeting our obligations for pastoral care in compliance with the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.

These roles present an exciting opportunity for candidates who are passionate about working with students and creating a positive living and learning environment, are team players, well-organised, proactive, quick to learn, and adaptable.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven knowledge of what it takes to live successfully in communal living.
  • Experience organising and delivering events and maintaining budgets.
  • Experience living or working across cultures, with a particular understanding of Māori, Pasifika, and international students.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge and ability to use social media (Facebook, Instagram etc.).
  • Ability to facilitate events programmes as required during the academic year.
  • Ability to foster professional and appropriate relationships.
  • Demonstrated previous success at being a positive role model.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement, with an ability to think on your feet.
  • Unrestricted NZ driver’s license.
