Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Learning Systems Specialist to join the Applications Support team within Te Tai Matihiko - Digital Solutions on a permanent, full-time basis. The role is responsible for providing application and system support for the University’s learning and teaching systems.

The purpose of the Learning Systems Specialist is to provide targeted and specialised application support expertise across our entire online learning platform to support the successful delivery of learning and teaching, an enhanced learning experience, and a future focused learning environment for all students at the University.

The Learning Systems Specialist also manages growth and change in our learning environment, manages the integration of new and modern learning tools and interfaces within the Learning Management System (LMS), and works with academics and Central Support Units (CSUs) on the innovative use of our learning platform.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead application development and design projects that enhance the quality of our learning platform and enable new or experimental digital learning and teaching experiences.
  • Collaborate with Te Kōtuinga Mātauranga - Centre for Academic Development (CAD) and other stakeholders to design, implement, and maintain a learning platform that supports current and future learning and teaching needs.
  • Lead and participate in design thinking activities to understand and document learning technology needs of academics and students.
  • Manage the technical administration and operational oversight of the University's digital learning platform and related environments.
  • Lead and facilitate the technical relationship with learning environment and technology vendors.
  • Manage or participate in projects that focus on the enhancement of digital learning and teaching.
  • Provide input, as appropriate, into digital learning and teaching standards, policies, and procedures.

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience in the technical administration and support for modern cloud-based Learning Management Systems and associated learning tools.
  • Proven experience in managing application environments and common integration standards, with preferred experience managing LTI and Caliper.
  • Proven experience in management of enterprise-wide IT application environments, and critical strategic IT infrastructure.
  • Experience in creating, managing, documenting, and improving application support processes and application lifecycles.
  • Strong interest in modern/digital online modes of delivery and instructional design methodologies.
  • Sound relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Culturally intelligent.
  • Relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning, preferably in the tertiary sector.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express complex matters in a concise and easily understandable manner to different target groups.
