Process Engineer (BBBH103) Livingston, Scotland

Salary: GBP35000 - GBP45000 per annum + plus excellent benefits

MRD Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting a Process Engineer on behalf of our Manufacturing client. My client is a market leader in their respective field. The Process Engineer will be based in Livingston, and report to the Engineering Manager.

Based in Livingston, the Process Engineer is fundamental to the controlled development and growth of the company. This involves increasing the productivity and efficiency of the manufacturing process, through orchestrating operational improvements and striving for process optimisation.

The principal objective of the Process Engineer role is analysing existing processes and systems, to then assess and look at ways to improve these, in order to drive productivity within the site. This includes looking at new methods and technology.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Through data-driven analytical troubleshooting practices, identify and implement improvements in the manufacturing process
  • Implement and provide training in analytical problem-solving techniques
  • Develop tools to quantify process and product capabilities
  • Apply statistical relevance to areas of improvement and quantify potential and real benefits
  • Install and monitor systems of continuous improvement, SPC and other initiatives as appropriate
  • Research technical and process best practice
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers to improve knowledge, strive for improvements and correct deficiencies in the process
  • Ensure robust practices are applied to improvement activities in order to maximise benefit
  • Devise and maintain systems to monitor the consistency of processes
  • Utilise Lean methodologies and the Change Management structure
  • Oversee implementation of new processes and procedures
  • Design and develop processes to optimise productivity and workflow
  • Ensure effective knowledge transfer through trials, report writing and verbal training sessions
  • Assist teams in carrying out the implementation on changes proposed
  • To support the production teams in their objectives of high-quality production, efficient running and good machine utilisation
  • To continuously improve the quality of the company’s processes and methods
  • To ensure that priorities are focused on reducing waste in all its forms, aligning with Lean methodologies
  • To analyse data in order to determine opportunities for improvement
  • To provide key performance data on our manufacturing processes and products and identify priority areas for improvement to reduce waste and manufacturing costs
  • To establish training plans and provide training for other personnel on various aspects of our manufacturing process and in particular on the ongoing improvement activities, where appropriate
  • To ensure that all Health & Safety procedures are adhered to and that all work is conducted in a safe manner
  • To carry out workplace assessments, identify hazards, isolate and rectify them or immediately escalate them to leadership or health and safety representatives
  • To undertake training as required by the company on safety, new processes, machinery or other matters relating to the maintenance and development of a highly skilled, capable and flexible workforce
  • To seek improvement in personal performance and the performance of colleagues through review, discussion and training
  • To maintain good, co-operative relationships with colleagues involved in other aspects of the process and other operations to promote strong teamwork across the company to meet customer requirements
  • To participate or lead appropriate improvement groups or teams to bring your knowledge and experience to bear on improving processes, production or the working environment
  • To seek prevention of faults, downtime and waste, and improvement in productivity, processes and the working environment through good judgment and experience

Knowledge, Skills & Experiences

Essential:

  • Degree educated (or equivalent) in Process / Chemistry / Engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the business
  • Experience of fast moving, complex manufacturing processes
  • Good level of Lean understanding and awareness
  • High level of technical report writing skills
  • A dynamic approach to prioritising workload and handling multiple tasks simultaneously

Desirable:

  • Experience of Microsoft packages and statistical analysis software such as Minitab
  • Understanding of scientific and mathematical principles
  • Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups
