We are looking for a Safety Engineer for one of our clients with the following details:
Location: Nanterre, Paris, France
Expected Start Date: November 4, 2024
Contract Duration: 12 months

Qualification and Experience Required:
Educational Background:
- Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Safety or Process Engineering.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of HSED engineering activities, including Hazardous Area Classification, Detection, Active and Passive Fire Protection, Personnel Protection, and Escape, Evacuation & Rescue.
- Proficient understanding of international safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA standards, API practices, IP codes, EN1473), as well as major COMPANY safety specifications.
- Expertise in safety engineering for Oil & Gas or energy transition facilities.
Professional Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety engineering within the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, energy transition, and/or mining industries.
Technical Competence:
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills in technical matters, with an ability to optimize or modify plant design.
- Proficient in common office software tools (e.g., Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat).
Languages:
- Proficient in English (written and spoken).
Soft Skills:
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal communication skills, particularly in a multicultural environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, proactivity, and attention to detail, including maintaining strict traceability of sources, comments, and modifications.
- Ability to work independently and organize tasks efficiently, while maintaining open communication within and outside the HSED team.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze issues and propose technically sound solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- As a Safety Engineer, you will be integrated into the HSED team, focusing on Safety activities for the assigned project. You will interface with multiple disciplines, including Process, Piping, Civil, and Instrumentation, as well as collaborate with various operational centers.
- Identifying and assessing Major Accident Events.
- Designing and implementing prevention, control, mitigation, and protection measures to ensure personnel, environmental, and asset safety.
Contributing to the safe design of projects through the following activities and deliverables:
- Preliminary Risk Analysis (*)
- Participation in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, etc.)
- Plot plan and 3D model reviews
- Identification of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) and associated criticality ratings
- Hazardous area classification
- Passive fire protection (*)
- Cold spill protection (*)
- Active fire protection, including design of firewater pump stations, fire-fighting networks, and deluge systems, along with hydraulic balance calculations
- Flammable and toxic gas detection, and fire detection systems
- Personnel protection strategies
- Escape, Evacuation & Rescue plans (*)
- Specification and procurement for firefighting and personnel protection equipment, including technical bid evaluation and vendor follow-up.
- (*) Note: Quantitative risk analysis (Consequence Analysis, QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA), explosion load specification, and RAM analysis are outside the scope of Safety activities. These fall under Risk Quantification, which is managed by a separate team. Similarly, Risk Quantification, Environmental & Health, and Noise & Vibration activities are not part of this role.
