Temporary Hostel Worker Wanted in Brixton

Pay: £13.50 - £17 Per hour

Clients: Working with Vulnerable people experiencing homelessness with various complex needs in across two sites, one being a 14 bed hostel and one being a smaller step down service for more independent clients (walking distance from one another)

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours, must have complete availability and be happy to work 5 days a week across Monday – Friday on a rolling rota. With one weekend a month

Early shift: 07:30am – 15:30

Late: 14:30 – 22:30

Location: Brixton

Assignment: Averaging 37.5 hours a week on a rolling rota for 3 months (potential extension)

Our social care client in Brixton, needs a complex needs hostel worker for their hostel-based project. They need someone who is comfortable with lone working and someone who can work as part of a team, overseeing a caseload of 2-4 clients who can be hard to engage!

Service Notes:

The service provides ex-homeless clients with accommodation and support around their needs. The team consists of the team manager, two lead workers and fellow hostel workers. You will have a caseload of 2-4 clients with complex needs. They can be problematic individuals, but the hiring manager has confirmed they rarely have any issues with clients, due to the professionalism of the team and how well the service is conducted.

You will have to accompany clients’ appointments, ensuring they present well and are punctual. Provide one to one support around their needs and check up on them to see how they are progressing. In this role you will be expected to follow support plans with each member of your caseload and consult the manager/lead workers and use your initiative on any changes that are required

To be successful in this social care role you should have a good expertise and understanding of the following:

  • The needs of homeless people and can work in an empathetic, constructive but strict manner with vulnerable adults who have experienced complex trauma, pre-existing forms of addiction or mental health issues.
  • You will have excellent written and oral communication skills to enable you to effectively advocate on behalf of your clients when required
  • Will also possess good literacy, numeracy, and I.T skills.
  • You should have an interest in homelessness issues and have up to date knowledge on Homeless and housing legislation.
  • As hostel worker you will be providing key work support sessions based on each client’s support plans catered around their various support needs. You will also be collating and updating needs and risks assessments, confidence in both these areas of expertise is crucial.
  • You will need to assess clients on their barriers to engagement with the service and yourself, using altered approaches to enable the clients to trust you for you to begin assisting them with the reshape of their lives
  • You will also be inducting new tenants into the service, helping them to understand their terms of agreement and making them feel settled
