Salary: GBP26 - GBP26 per hour

I am currently working with a highly established client looking for an experienced Build Inspector to work with them for a 12 month period. This is a great opportunity for work alongside a company with 50 years’ experience in the aviation sector. You would join their Quality Department specialising in Space & Defence.

Location: Stevenage

Salary: £26.00 per hour Umbrella
Hours:  Standard 37 hours per week - Rotating early/late shift pattern 0600-1400 / 1400-2200 which has a 20% uplift

Clearance: BPPS to start

This team ensures with confidence that their customers’ requirements are being met during the MAIT phases of the Spacecraft build cycle.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform in-process technical and final inspections. (Visual inspection, measurement inspection, electrical testing)
  • Provide technical feedback and advice to the Spacecraft Production team regarding quality control, calling upon any specialist knowledge as appropriate
  • Support Spacecraft Production operators / technicians in deciding on the severity of an incident or any go-no-go decisions that may be needed
  • Advise and if required support the Spacecraft Production team leader on quality matters, if needed reject and assist manufacturing in the correction of errors
  • Attend and support PPS meetings (root cause analysis) where required
  • Physically and systematically quarantine non-conforming components and assemblies identified during inspections. Properly identify and document items in quality quarantine cupboard
  • Assist Spacecraft Production operators / team leaders in the management of local non-conformances and non-conformance reports
  • Raising Occurrence Reports if required, and ensuring that ORs are fully implemented and ready for final closure. Consulting with the appropriate departments to check minor OR dispositions
  • Review and supply feedback of quality procedures, processes, documents and forms used during daily activities for accuracy and completeness
  • Support departmental meetings, special projects and team meetings
  • Demonstrate creativity by proposing improvements to our working practices to reduce our non-quality costs
  • Performing patrol inspections not only on documentation and hardware but also including Spacecraft Production process applications including the controls and disciplines of the cleanrooms such as: - Cleanliness - Tool calibration - Training records - AIT process ‘spot checks’


Required skills

Essential:

 

  • Right attitude to adapt with the essential skills and experiences in a manufacturing environment is as much valued as experience in a quality role
  • 2 years in a manufacturing business
  • Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives
  • Reporting skills – attention to detail is important
  • Computer skills – being comfortable to work on different digital tools and tablets. Able to quickly and proactively adapt to new tool implementation
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Dedicated to continuous learning and self-improvement
  • Open to and seeks out feedback, using it to reflect on ways to improve
  • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility
  • Organised, practical and logical in work approach – with good communication and interpersonal 

 


Desirable:

 

  • ESA qualification would be a plus
  • Recognised time served apprenticeship within the aerospace industry
  • 3 years’ experience within the aerospace or related industries.
  • Science based or electronics GCSEs
  • Experience with CMM /Faro Arm / NDT techniques would be a plus
  • Experience with 3D drawings (Catia) would be a plus
  • Knowledge on composite/carbon and/or electrical testing


Skills

 

  • Flexibility to travel within the UK and Europe when required – on an occasional basis
  • Willingness to work on shift, on-call or off-site for short periods when required – also on an occasional basis
