This is a permanent position
Working hours Monday to Friday 12:00-20:00
Salary £26,000 - £30,000 depending on experience
full training will be given minimum of 3 years in a supervisor role experience required
Job description
General:
To manage workload and processes within the General Chemistry laboratory. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the staff and workload within the department to ensure the turnaround times are met whilst maintaining quality. This is a hands-on role and you will still be processing samples.
Main Duties:
- Follow in house techniques as trained.
- Quality Control; process samples through the laboratory within company guidelines and working to ISO 17025:2017 standard.
- Supervise the distribution of work within the department setting priorities internally ensuring accurate and timely results to achieve the required Turn Around Times (TAT).
- Ensure best practice compliance is adhered to within the department, more specifically daily checks on equipment and appropriate maintenance activities.
- Ensure analysis is tracked, checked, validated and associated records are updated prior to leaving the department and advising staff to take corrective action where necessary.
- Responsible for housekeeping within the department ensuring it is clean and tidy.
- Ensure that the health & safety culture, policies and procedures are promoted, communicated and implemented effectively in order to minimise risk.
- Liaise with the Operations Manager to ensure successful communication of job updates to senior Management.
- Routinely use standard laboratory equipment such as balances for sample weighing, auto titrators, PH meters etc..
- Use LIMS system for the recording of data and sample tracking within the laboratory.
- Safe handling of chemicals and awareness of laboratory hazards.
- Develop knowledge of metals and minerals qualities.
- To store samples in accordance with the systems in place.
- Undertake other responsibilities as and when required and in accordance with the seniority of the position.
General H&S Responsibilities:
- Comply with Health & Safety requirements: as per training, policies, procedures, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work etc.
- Actively seek to improve safety culture.
- Report any H&S issues/accidents/near misses to your line manager immediately.
Other General Responsibilities:
- Practice and promote good housekeeping
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent organisation and time management skills as well as well as ability to rearrange workload promptly based on changing priorities
- Experience of effectively communicating with people at all levels both internally and externally
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in their work
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team and independently.
- Able to use Microsoft applications including, Outlook, Word and Excel
