Our client is a leading food manufacturer, part of a global blue-chip organisation, with multiple sites throughout the UK. Due to a recent movement internally, they are looking for an experienced Despatch Manager to lead their night shift operations.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead the night shift operation for all goods-in and goods-out across the busy warehouse & distribution areas attached to a food production facility
• Managing an experienced team of despatch operatives (25 people) that pick orders by an automated pick-by-light system, by hand and with forklifts to go onto lorry bays for distribution
• A shift that has a steady and regular flow of loads going out to customers
• Ensure the safe and accurate receipt, handling and distribution of goods in/out
• Set team goals, targets, workload allocation to meet company KPi’s
• Make sure everyone is compliant with high levels of health & safety standards and quality control
• Optimise labour allocation via the company Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
• Be part of continuous improvement action plans and projects
• Carry out recruitment, appraisals, disciplinaries, RTW’s, holiday requests, training

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Must have previously worked a night shift position – used to the hours
• Strong health & safety focussed, experienced, with a “safety first” approach
• Must have been a despatch manager previously or being doing that level role now
• Strong leadership and man-management experience
• Computer literate – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, WMS, reporting etc.
• Must have experience of working in warehouse / distribution
• Ideally have worked in a food / FMCG manufacturing environment
• Any experience of managing a team that heavily uses forklifts beneficial
• Able to show experience of developing a team, training plans, CI work
• Worked in a goods-in & goods-out warehouse
• Customer focussed, working to get products out the door effectively & efficiently
• Strong communicator and motivator
