About the role

The Turbomachinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis and Design group within the Mechanical Systems and Components (MS&C) directorate is responsible for the design, development and analysis of Environmental Control System (ECS) turbomachinery and heat exchangers, as well as LSS and Oxygen backup systems. The successful applicant will be responsible for stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses.

Responsibilities include providing technical expertise on a variety of projects and programs. You will use your expert knowledge of engineering discipline and standards, processes and tools to ensure compliance to customer and program requirements. Other responsibilities include communicating with Project engineering teams, conduction of design reviews, presentations to internal and external customers and contributing to department process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform stress analysis using complete finite element & classical book calculation methods and support testing
  • Perform heat transfer analysis in practice and theory (analytical correlations and complete finite element methods and related topics in thermodynamics, single and multi-phase flows and energy systems.
  • Provide technical oversight to global engineering teams across time zones
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related field with emphasis in heat transfer or thermal sciences & stress analysis
  • Proficiency in linear static, nonlinear/elasto-plastic, fatigue (HCF & LCF), modal, shock, harmonic, random vibration, & crack growth analyses
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSYS finite element software & classical hand calculation methods
  • Team Player
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Significant experience with new product development in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to analyse and solve complex and challenging problems
  • Effectively operate in a matrix organization
  • Track record of successful contribution to products & projects
  • Keen mindset to envision process improvements and execution of such initiatives
