Position Title: Automation and Controls Engineer
Location: The Woodlands, TX
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Controls Engineering Manager
Travel Requirement: 10–20%
Position Overview: This role involves managing project implementation, operational support, and maintenance of automation and controls systems. The engineer will collaborate with partners to understand hardware, software, and network strategies; manage the controls environment; and develop automation solutions. Responsibilities also include designing, commissioning, and starting up new controls systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact for technical support to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Provide technical support to maintain equipment manufacturing.
- Train personnel on new processes and technologies.
- Execute projects involving controls systems and related hardware, software, and networks.
- Design, commission, and start up automation solutions.
- Troubleshoot issues with electrical controls, PLCs, controllers, networks, VFDs, power systems, and related software.
- Stay updated on controls systems, hardware, programming standards, and market trends.
- Act as the main contact for third-party automation integrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Engage with technology vendors and partners.
- Travel as needed for discussions, operational support, and technology R&D or deployments.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for controls-related issues.
Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in automation, controls, and electrical equipment.
- Preferably knowledgeable in Hydraulic Fracturing activities.
- Preferably familiar with Siemens S7 platform.
- Understanding of equipment controls and logic.
- Ability to read electrical/controls drawings and network diagrams.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong time management skills.
- Proven experience in executing controls and automation projects, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- In-depth knowledge of control systems, Siemens hardware and software, programming languages, protocols, and networking.
- Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and writing SCL PLC programming language.
- Strong operational mindset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical principles clearly.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and other project design documents.
- Completion of New Hire Safety Orientation and annual recertification.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver's license.
