About our Apprenticeship
• The primary role of a steel fixer is to assemble and erect the steel components
required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures, such as bridges.
• You will be working as part of a larger team in which you will have responsibility for
constructing reinforcement for columns, beams, walls and floors.
• It is anticipated that candidates will typically complete the apprenticeship
within 18 months.
• English and Maths qualifications (GCSE Grades A-C / 4-9) form
a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed during
the apprenticeship if not already achieved and prior to formal
assessment.

Accountabilities
• Setting out the work area.
• Following engineering plans.
• Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh.
• Tying steel reinforcement bars to build cages.
• Fitting spacers and connectors.
• Interpreting contract information, drawing and specifications in order to assemble and install the components correctly.
Location: Birmingham (project wide)
What are we looking for?
• This apprenticeship is open to all candidates over the age of 18. We particularly encourage applications from women, who are under-represented within the rail industry. All female applicants will be guaranteed an interview.
• Basic understanding of health and safety issues relating to the apprenticeship.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectivity as part of a team.
• Willing to learn and take responsibility for personal development.
• Ideally you must drive and have access to your own vehicle.
• A valid Green Labourers CSCS card is a benefit.
