Innovation & Development Engineer

Cardiff

£35,000 - £42 ,00 per annum + pension, life insurance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of new door designs, features, and hardware to enhance product offerings.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify market trends, customer needs, and regulatory changes influencing product innovation.
  • Drive value-engineering initiatives to optimise manufacturing efficiency and profitability while maintaining product function and quality.
  • Address product development needs arising from customer complaints, procurement requirements, or quality concerns.
  • Ensure all development projects follow the structured Innovation & Development process and align with IQC priorities.
  • Produce detailed 3D models and technical drawings using SolidWorks to support design and manufacturing processes.
  • Document project progress, design iterations, and technical specifications in accordance with business protocols

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

 

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in product development, engineering design, or innovation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and industry standards relevant to door and hardware development is an advantage.
  • Experience in value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives is desirable.
  • Strong technical and engineering knowledge related to product design and development.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and technical drawing creation.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop innovative and practical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and market demands in the industry.
  • Project management skills to manage multiple development projects effectively.
