Title: Trainee Refractory Engineer
The COMPANY
Our client is a well established Global manufacturer of combustion equipment to the petrochemical industry selling products, systems and site services worldwide. Their market leading comprehensive product range includes thermal oxidizers, burners, flare systems and pollution control equipment. We are proud to be an integral part of their ongoing expansion, providing them with suitable local staff to complement their outstanding existing team.
The ROLE
Refractory products are used in all the world’s high-temperature industrial processes. Without them, the steel, cement, lime, non-ferrous metals, glass, energy, foundry, iron/steel making and chemical industries couldn’t exist.
Refractories defy the most hostile conditions to stay strong and stable at temperatures of up to 2000 °C. To contain materials safely while they’re burned, melted, blasted, fired, fused, and shaped. And to protect equipment such as furnaces and kilns against thermal, mechanical and chemical stress.
The successful Trainee Refractory Engineer will be responsible for determining design and finalising material selection, scheduling drafting and manufacturing, maintaining a cost budget, handling technical and commercial correspondence and negotiations.
The minutia of this role include;
• Design and estimate refractory related applications including pre-cast tiles / shapes.
• Material selection and design, establishing final refractory design.
• Cost budget for jobs
• Prepare delivery schedules
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
• Assist in designing and producing refractory engineering drawings
• Utilise computer-assisted drafting (CAD) system to complete assignments
• Perform other related duties as assigned. Some of these duties may include: -
1. Quotation/sales support
2. Conducting field survey visits
3. Supporting Refractory Design Engineering

The Candidate
The successful Trainee Refractory Engineer will require the following mix of skills and experience;
• AutoCAD Mechanical skills
• Engineering background – mechanical/chemical/ refractory/Industrial
• Ability to create trust and relationships with customers
• Strong IT skill set; PM, Excel, Word etc.
• Able to travel
• Industrial, Power, Petrochemical, steel, cement, lime, non-ferrous metals, glass, foundry, iron/steel making, chemical or refinery background
• Refractory experience/knowledge would be advantageous
• Site experience.
Salary: Depending on Experience
