Help Desk Level 1 - Linux /Mac/Windows

Location:  Greenwich, Connecticut


Overview

The Help Desk Administrator is responsible for Level 1 support for the Studio’s Linux workstations, and Mac and Windows workstations and laptops. The ideal candidate has previous Help Desk experience and/or a computer science degree. The Help Desk administrator reports to the Help Desk Coordinator and the Head of Systems, and works closely with the department’s systems administration staff on daily task assignments and priorities.



Primary Responsibilities

  • Level 1 help desk administration support for our 600+ seat feature film animation Studio, including but not limited to:
    • CentOS, macOS, and Windows hardware, OS, application support and integration support.
    • Mobile devices support (iOS, Android).
    • Tablets, monitors, printers and peripherals.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Level 1 support for Linux, Mac, and Windows computers and applications.
    • Computer security, including disk encryption and certificates.
    • Installation image management, including pre-imaging and post-imaging procedures.
    • Workstation diagnostics and repair.
    • Patching network connections and VOIP telephones from network switch to desktop.
    • Configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting printers and print clients.
    • Maintaining inventories of software, hardware, peripherals, and printer toner.
    • Configuring and troubleshooting user accounts and home directories for Linux, Mac and Windows.
    • Configuring and troubleshooting remote access.
    • Training users on basic computer and applications use.
    • Thorough record keeping and documentation as required.
    • Other projects, and duties as may be required or assigned.
  • Exhibits courtesy, tact, consideration, teamwork and discretion in all interactions with Studio staff and with the public.



Education and Job Experience

  • 1-2 years IT experience at a college or business help.
  • Experience administering computers in a multi-platform production environment is a plus.



Qualifications

The Help Desk Administrator position requires the ability to service a wide range of technologies, including but not limited to:

Technology

Hardware installation and troubleshooting:

  • Apple Mac mini, iMac, MacBook Pro.
  • HP workstations and laptops.
  • Monitors including HP DreamColor, Wacom Cintiq, and Hyundai Stereo monitors.
  • Wacom Intuos tablets.
  • Xerox and HP printers, scanners, faxes.

Operating system installation and configuration:

  • Linux; experience with CentOS is a plus.
  • Apple macOS .
  • Windows 7 and 10; Windows Server 2012 and 2016 experience is a plus.

Software:

  • G Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Maya.



Skills and Abilities

  • Technical aptitude, indicated on resume and supported by references.
  • Independent worker with good task and time management skills.
  • Focused, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with all levels of employees.
  • Process oriented, but flexible around business needs.



Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • The Systems department provides 24/7 support for some production critical systems. Flexible working hours are required, including occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
  • Some systems maintenance is scheduled for early morning, evening or weekend hours.
  • Walking, bending, sitting and lifting up to 50lbs and using a pallet jack to move inventory is required on a regular basis.
  • Office working environment.
